“Debe ser nuestra meta nacional ser nada menos que el número uno en términos de llegadas, gasto y experiencia de visitantes”, expresó Freeman. “Pero nuestras ambiciones están limitadas por tiempos de espera excesivamente largos para las visas de visitantes, a menudo largas esperas en la aduana y un sistema de control del tráfico aéreo que tiene dificultades para satisfacer la demanda. Lograr el crecimiento del turismo requerirá un enfoque sostenido por parte del gobierno y la industria para abordar las fricciones y mejorar el proceso para los viajeros.”

Durante la semana del 3 al 7 de mayo, se llevó a cabo en Los Ángeles, California una nueva edición de la feria de turismo IPW, una de las más famosas e importantes que este año, contó con la participación de 5.700 delegados de todas partes del mundo que, se dieron cita para conocer las novedades y transformaciones de la industria turística en Estados Unidos. 

Y si hablamos un poco más de Los Ángeles, la ciudad hosting y anfitriona del #IPW 2024: 

Oficialmente se le conoce como la Ciudad de Los Ángeles y en inglés, City of Angeles, con su abreviatura LA, siendo la ciudad más poblada de California y, la segunda en todo Estados Unidos. Ubicada en el sur de California, posee una superficie de 1215 km² y es, además, una de las mayores áreas metropolitanas del mundo.

YOSEMITE IN A DAY: FALL EDITION

Experience the magic of fall in Yosemite, where cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and vibrant bursts of color await. Witness the captivating displays of Dogwoods, Big Leaf Maples, and Black Oaks as they paint the landscape with red, orange, and gold hues. While fall colors typically grace the park throughout October, they can begin as early as September and extend into November.

The scenic drive from the South Entrance to Tunnel View takes approximately one hour, traveling safely at 35 mph. Remember to pull over at turnouts to allow other vehicles to pass and remain vigilant for wildlife crossing the roadway.

  ONE BIG THING: IPW BRINGS 5,700 DELEGATES TO LOS ANGELES

Last week, we convened 5,700 delegates in Los Angeles for U.S. Travel’s IPW, including 2,000 buyers and media from nearly 70 countries—a notable 20% increase in attendance from 2023.

•              By the numbers: The event featured more than 100,000 appointments, which will generate over $5.5 billion in travel to the U.S.

The U.S. Travel team had hundreds of conversations with attendees—and the sentiment was clear: The world is excited and ready to travel to and within the U.S.

However, total inbound visitation to the U.S. remained at just 84% recovered (at the end of 2023) of 2019 levels, so much work remains ahead to increase both arrivals and market share.

•              With thousands of international delegates in attendance and a decade of international sporting events on the horizon—including the 2026 World Cup and the 2028 Olympics—improving the visitor experience was top of mind.

At U.S. Travel’s IPW, five travel journalists were honored with U.S. Travel Association and Brand USA Travel Writer Awards. The competition recognizes outstanding travel writing by journalists in three categories: best U.S. travel destination article, best (past) IPW host city article for San Antonio (2023), and best trade publication Article.

 AT U.S. TRAVEL'S IPW, LEADERS SAY GOVERNMENT MUST INCREASE FOCUS TO ACHIEVE TRAVEL GROWTH

Travel's IPW – the largest generator of international inbound travel to the United States – Association President and CEO Geoff Freeman shared a vision to make travel a national priority, solve barriers to visitation growth, and become the most-visited nation in the world.

“It should be our national goal to be nothing short of number one in terms of visitor arrivals, visitor spend and visitor experience,” Freeman said. “But our ambitions are constrained by excessively long wait times for visitor visas, often-lengthy waits at customs, and an air traffic control system that is challenged to meet demand. Achieving travel growth will require a sustained focus by government and industry to address frictions and improve the process for travelers.”

• John F. Kennedy International Airport | Jamaica, Queens | Ongoing

• 
  Building on the recently completed Terminal 8 (T8) Expansion project, John F. Kennedy Airport announced a $125 million commercial redevelopment initiative, including 300+ new concessions and 60+ new retail offerings, emphasizing local, minority and women-owned businesses. JFK also saw the groundbreaking of the new, upcoming $4.2 million redevelopment of Terminal 6, which will occupy the site of the former Terminal 6 and Terminal 7. Construction is also currently underway at Terminal 1, which will become a state-of-the-art terminal with 23 gates and 300,000 square feet of dining, retail, lounges and recreation, expected to open in 2026.
  

 VISIT ORLANDO ANNOUNCES 25% YEAR-OVER-YEAR INTERNATIONAL VISITATION GROWTH IN 2023

Visit Orlando, The Official Tourism Association   ®for Orlando, announced that the destination welcomed 6.13 million international visitors in 2023, an increase of 25% over 2022 numbers. Canada remains Orlando's top international market, with more than 1.2 million visitors traveling to Orlando in 2023, the highest number from this market in Orlando's history.

We saw strong gains from all of our core international markets, particularly from Canada, which brought in record-breaking visitation numbers,” said Casandra Matej, president and CEO for Visit Orlando. “Orlando's international growth is a testament to the uniqueness of our unbelievably real destination, the support from our travel trade partners and our emphasis on strategic marketing initiatives to help drive visitation from our key markets.”
